Why a CDE Matters

A CDE goes well beyond a simple screening. It provides:

  • A formal diagnosis (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder) based on national, evidence-based standards.
  • A detailed understanding of developmental and behavioral functioning in key areas such as communication, social interaction, adaptive skills, and behavior.
  • A written evaluation report that supports ABA therapy authorization with insurance or Medicaid.
  • Clear clinical recommendations, including whether ABA therapy is medically necessary.

A CDE must be completed by a licensed practitioner, for example, a developmental pediatrician, child psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), child neurologist, or child/adult psychiatrist,  operating within their scope of practice.
